Galderma x Guardian’s Act on Acne Talk

Grasping the complexities of and conquering Acne

Ever thought of applying concepts learnt in pharmacy modules in real life? How about being proactive pharmacists who design their own treatment? That is exactly what the Galderma x Guardian’s Act on Acne Talk was a platform for. Organised by the PPAC committee, on the 2nd of February, students from various faculties came together to immerse themselves in an insightful discourse on Acne and its complications.

Starting off by revising pathophysiology of Acne taught in PR2156, the talk was indeed like a real life application question asked in CLWs. Many students were delighted to learn it directly from our guest speaker/notable alumna Ms Grace Chew, a principal pharmacist at Guardian who presented a light hearted dialogue ranging from acne’s causes and various treatments available in pharmacies to tackle them. This run helped participants gain an in-depth knowledge on their own skincare. Alfred, a Year 3 pharmacy student also mentioned how he learnt about unique skin ingredients like adapalene and benzoyl peroxide and its efficacy in Acne.

Participants then got a run through of products available in Benzac that can be seamlessly integrated into one’s skincare. Ms Amelia, Galderma Key Account Executive and pharmacist, gave a peek into skin ingredients that participants can look out for, for anti-inflammatory and comedolytic properties. She also shared insights on how to structure skincare and further non-pharmacological treatments to strengthen the skin barrier. One participant shared how this was applicable in her daily life as she could incorporate a new serum to better target her mild acne when she tried the Benzac samples provided by Galderma.

With students now well versed with Acne, it was then time to put it to the test in the rapid fire quiz segments. Top three contenders got to walk away with two Benzac products while all participants got a door gift of Benzac face wash. Regardless, everyone became a  ‘porefessional’ in acne management after this talk.
