W-Interhouse

The end of winter: truly the bane of undergraduates the world over.

Yet, for the spirited members of our Pharmily, the highly anticipated highlight of their vacation had just begun – NUSPS’ annual Winter Interhouse Games, affectionately known as the W-Interhouse Games!

A test of teamwork, resilience, strength, and fortitude, the W-Interhouse Games pitted the five houses and various NUSPS committees against each other in trials of strength, agility and mind. These teams, comprising both familiar and new faces, had to collaborate against formidable odds.

The day kicked off with icebreakers, a necessary warm-up considering the diverse teams, ranging from freshmen to third years. From party staples like Two Truths, One Lie, to laughter-inducing Never-Have-I-Ever, participants were introduced to the fascinating stories of their new friends, and THEN some (perhaps a lil too much…). All in all, the icebreakers set the tone for the day.

Following the icebreakers were station games, featuring seven stages of increasingly absurd permutations of orientation challenges. Participants navigated hula hoops, attempted bucket trick shots, and found themselves in amusingly unglamorous photos as they carried straws across the room, hands-free! Wait what?

The event seamlessly transitioned into the sports section, featuring a dynamic array of activities.

Captain’s ball!

Face off against every other team in a spirited display of agility and coordination

Tug-of-War!

Take in the hair-raising roaring of cheers as you grasp the rope like your life depended on it.

Catch the tail!

Then comes the climax - a battle royale that blended athleticism and strategy, alternating between lengthy stalemates, akin to Mexican standoffs and bouts of frenzy.

During "Catch the Tail”, participant Li Thoong of the Galen team jokingly remarked, "I'd rather lose two arms than lose to them."

These sports not only injected a competitive edge but also fostered a strong sense of unity and shared achievement among the diverse teams.

The victorious Galen team, commenting on their sports segment win, shared: “Joining the inter-house games as a TBL group was a delightful way to unwind before the new school term…We strongly recommend participating in such events in the future! It's not every day that we get a chance to play sports and see each other outside the lecture theatre or lab, making these events valuable opportunities.”

Jee Jia Jun, the Welfare Director and Project Director of W-Interhouse, expressed the heartening experience of witnessing the rekindling of the strong Pharmily spirit. He genuinely enjoyed seeing the smiles on participants' faces as they immersed themselves in the Winter Interhouse Games.

The end of winter: truly the bane of undergraduates the world over. But not for our Pharmily. Our fun had just begun.
