Essential Medicines Committee: Celebrating Our Contributions
NUS has been honored with the North West School Partner Award (Bronze) for its outstanding contributions to the North West Community in 2023. The Essential Medicines Committee (EMed) of NUS Pharmaceutical Society orchestrated the event "Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! @North West," and was acknowledged by the North West Community Development Council as a significant contributor to this accolade.
EMed serves as the volunteering arm of NUS Pharmaceutical Society, with "Know Your Medicines, Get It Right (KYMGIR)" being its annual flagship event, pivotal in fostering meaningful connections between pharmacy students, pharmacists, and senior citizens in the community. At its core, the committee endeavors to provide free medication review services and disseminate health information among senior citizens, while also providing a platform for student volunteers to cultivate empathy and enhance their communication skills.
As in previous years, the 21st EMed Committee upheld its custom of embracing a carnival motif for the occasion, arranging diverse booths within the 888 Plaza Atrium for elderly attendees to enjoy. Alongside seeking guidance from pharmacists regarding their medication and supplement-related queries, the elderly also benefited from educational experiences at booths set up by the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Committee of NUS Pharmaceutical Society, where they learned about common health ailments and appropriate management strategies. The event garnered impressive community engagement, with numerous attendees expressing appreciation for the valuable information provided. We believe that the knowledge imparted during this event will lead to reduced medication errors and improved health outcomes in our community.
In the most recent iteration of KYMGIR, held at ACE The Place Community Club in collaboration with North West CDC, the 22nd EMed committee partnered with the Public Education Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore (PSS) to set up booths aimed at screening, educating, and raising awareness about osteoporosis among participants. Additionally, there was an educational booth focusing on the proper disposal of medication waste. Key partners such as the Health Promotion Board and Nestle played crucial roles in the success of the event.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated members of our committee, whose hard work and commitment made this event possible. We also wish to acknowledge our partners and sponsors, whose support was instrumental in the success of KYMGIR. Special gratitude is extended to the healthcare professionals who shared their expertise and engaged with elderly participants from the community. We are deeply grateful to the North West CDC for recognizing our efforts with this prestigious award. It is a testament to the collective effort of everyone involved and the positive impact of our initiatives. We also thank our community partner for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to health education.

Health T.A.G. @ YCK 2023
Health T.A.G. Committee
23rd September 2023 marked the second year running for Health T.A.G. (Test, Advise, Go)! This year, we brought Health T.A.G. to residents in #YioChuKang where more than 400 participants joined us at Blk 644 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. They got to test and find out their health condition, obtain advice and explore how to take better ownership of their own health through educational and fun activities brought together by our community partners. Residents were also treated to performances put up by various interest groups.
We are honoured to be joined by Mr Yip Hon Weng, advisor to Yio Chu Kang Grassroots Organisations, and various stakeholders during our health fair.
Health T.A.G. @ YCK would not have been possible without our co-organisers - Yio Chu Kang Grassroots Organisation and MOH Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT), the steadfast support from our various community partners, as well as our volunteers - both students and pharmacists alike, who have went above and beyond to serve our participants. We look forward to continuing our movement in empowering the public to take ownership of their health in 2024!

Exchange Programmes Sharing
Academic Committee
The Exchange Programmes Sharing was held for the Y1 and Y2 PMC and PHS students to allow them to learn more about the various exchange programmes through seniors' perspectives. The talk aimed to provide students with deeper insights into what exchange life is like, the application process, and personal tips and tricks from seniors. The sharing session encompassed sharings by both PHS seniors that went on a Semester Exchange Programme and a PMC seniors that went for summer school. This combination of speakers allowed the content to be relevant to both groups of students. Seniors were happy to answer any queries that the Y1 and 2s had and even provided advice on issues such as housing and module mapping. Overall, through this sharing session, students looking to apply for exchange would be able to make a more informed decision on how to further shape their journey in NUS.
