All Powered Up for Finals!

Who’s afraid of the big, bad Finals when NUSPS Welfare is here to help?

As the semester reached its crescendo and students found themselves neck-deep in revision and looming deadlines, the NUSPS Welfare department swooped in with two heartwarming initiatives – the Welfare Cafe and Welfare Pack Distribution – as a timely reminder to students that they were not alone in their academic journey. Both events served to fuel students with physical and emotional encouragement as they prepared for the upcoming final examinations.

Held on 31 October and 3 November from 12pm to 1pm, the Welfare Cafe was set up at the benches outside Frontier, in front of Nine Fresh. Students redeemed coupons for a free cup of iced Milo, iced coffee, or iced tea at the drinks stall in Frontier. This approach kept the beverages fresh and allowed students to collect them at their convenience. Within 30 minutes on both days, all 50 coupons (35 for iced Milo and 15 for iced tea or coffee) were snapped up, and the lucky few who managed to lay their hands on the limited coupons shared that the drinks had made their day. The refreshing midday treat was sufficient to rejuvenate them amidst the dreariness of studying and chase away their ennui.

However, the treats did not stop just there, as the Welfare Pack Distribution soon returned with even more goodies. As one of the most highly anticipated events of each semester, the Welfare Pack Distribution on 5 and 6 November saw approximately 300 students from both Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science sign up to receive the specially curated welfare packs. Brimming with a wide assortment of treats – from the classic Hello Panda to the childhood favourite Mamee Monster noodle snack – the welfare packs were an instant hit among students; they were the perfect companions when students felt peckish during long study sessions or needed an energy boost.

Taken together, the two initiatives did more than simply provide snacks and drinks – they were a warm gesture of care from the NUSPS community and an assurance that support was always within reach, even during this period of overwhelming stress and busyness. As the finals season marched on, these acts of kindness reinforced the message that no one should have to face challenges alone – and sometimes, nothing conveys this solidarity better than some free food.
