MSD Industry Visit
IRAC’s 2nd Industrial Visit: MSD — back by popular demand! (4 min read)
Walking through the boujee streets of Raffles Place, we knew we were about to embrace our inner corporate girlies (and lads).
First, we were greeted by Jamie, former school teacher, now Market Access Strategist at MSD, she knew exactly how to spice things up for students like us.
From the get go, the visit was brimming with passion as we engaged with the staff and took part in various interactive activities. The visit ended with a patient case scenario that got pretty heated!

The visit started off with the best part - freebies! As we sipped away at our milk teas, Jamie and her team gave us a brief run down of MSD — like what sets them apart from other pharmaceutical industries and so on.
Tbh, they’re a company that needs no introduction. Chances are you’ve probably heard of them, or at least seen their advertisement at various MRT stations recently.
That’s right! MSD specialises in vaccines, and also the emerging field of biologics.
Following that, students were split into groups and given a tour of MSD’s offices. To make it interactive, a game of bingo was incorporated into the tour, and we had to ask our guide different questions about the company to win. Hmm, can you name 3 vaccines manufactured by MSD?
Unfortunately, there’s not a lot I can show you without getting in trouble… but

As students streamed back in from the tour, the floor opened for students to have their burning questions answered during a casual chit chat session with industry experts.
“We could use a ladder match… like the WWE, to decide”
To wrap things up, students had the rare opportunity to step into the shoes of an MSD Market Access Specialist.
They were confronted with an ethical dilemma — as part of a patient case scenario — and as a group, the students immersed themselves in heated debates over what should be done.
Finally, they all sent a representative to present their creative, and (slightly) questionable solutions.
A novel experience indeed.
Every semester, IRAC hosts industrial visits for a different company. This time it's MSD but who knows where we’ll go in the future?
