XPharm Camp

To let prospective students experience Pharm

Organised by the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Committee (PPAC), XPharm is an annual outreach camp that aims to promote awareness of pharmacy and pharmaceutical Science to prospective Junior College and Polytechnic students.

This year, the camp was held on 2 and 3 January. It was attended by a formidable crowd of 120 JC and polytechnic students. Approximately 40 of our fellow Pharmers also helped to facilitate this camp!

During XPharm, students were exposed to various fun and engaging activities that allowed them to have a first-hand experience of what tutorials and lab sessions in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science are like. Among the myriad of activities planned for them, the pick-and-pack activity conducted in PPS Hub proved to be the most popular; the exhilaration emanating from the students was palpable as they whizzed around the room to pick, check and complete the prescriptions assigned to them in the shortest possible time.

Apart from that, students also had the privilege of attending talks by 6 esteemed guest speakers specially invited for this camp!

The Burnt Cones Welfare is not to be forgotten too! Students were treated to a cool, luscious, velvety delight that gave them a refreshing escape from the blistering afternoon heat. As they savoured every last drop of the soft, smooth ice cream, students also took the chance to socialise and know one another better.

PPAC hopes that through this camp, participants were able to gain a better understanding of the roles of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in Singapore’s growing health science industry, develop long-lasting connections with one another and with their student facilitators, and make more informed choices when selecting their university course in time to come.
