Medical Impact Mentorship Programme

Ready to Make Your Impact?

Introducing: The Medical Impact Mentorship Programme! With the goal of inspiring future healthcare professionals to discover THEIR purpose and serve THE community, the mentorship programme was conducted in the month of May.

It consisted of several exciting modules, ranging from Discovering Purpose, Redefining Success, to Servant Leadership! All of these were conducted in an INTERACTIVE manner, through small-group discussions with committed and distinguished mentors from various healthcare disciplines!

First hand experiences from our participants:

Medical Impact Mentorship was a memorable experience of networking with other healthcare students and mentors who shared their wisdom and abundant experiences as a leader within their field. I was honoured to have Dr Cassandra Chang, a senior clinical pharmacist at Singapore General Hospital (SGH), Dr Lau Tang Ching and a senior consultant Rheumatologist from National University Health System and Dr Linus Chua, from St Luke’s Hospital. I even had the opportunity to meet with Dr Ang Hui Gek from SGH and previously held the position of the President of the Singapore Pharmacy Board.

I learnt to before taking a step as a leader, to find my purpose in life and it will then, shape my choice as a person, healthcare professional and a leader. This mentorship also shaped my understanding of the type of leader I am and what it takes to be a “good leader”. After the 4 weeks, I was left pondering to think about the future I would like to construct from being a leader.

Although the sessions are only 4 weeks, the lessons and friends you make can last a lifetime!
— Julian, President 63rd EXCO
The Medical Impact Mentoring Programme was an excellent avenue to learn from other healthcare students, particularly those from majors outside of NUS (such as physiotherapy), which I’m less familiar with. I most enjoyed my mentors’ sharings about how they managed complex patients and had to be flexible in catering to their needs. At Impact you also get to interact with other mentors outside your group, and I feel it’s rare to have such a unique opportunity to interact with such a vast community of experienced healthcare experts from so many different fields. Would highly recommend to anyone worried or confused about navigating clinicals (and life in general) in future!!

Throughout the 4 weeks, distinguished speakers shared their wealth of experience in the healthcare sector, in an effort to empower future healthcare students to derive passion and a deeper purpose for the healthcare profession. Various topics were covered, ranging from Redefining Success to the concept of Servant Leadership. These multifaceted themes was explored with facilitators who are also seniors in the healthcare field, along with fellow participants from other healthcare disciplines. It was truly a fruitful experience that I encourage all healthcare students to join!
