Galen by the Bay

Because we could all use some chill before finals.

Finals are coming up — that’s unavoidable. But, what we can avoid is over-stressing ourselves and mugging till we drop.

Recognising that their fellow Galenites could use some fresh air in the midst of their studying grind, the thoughtful househeads of Galen held an outdoor potluck at Gardens by the Bay on 9 October. Cue Galen by the Bay (GBTB), the house’s first welfare event of the academic year. (Don’t worry, word on the street is that there are plenty more to come.)

Thankfully, the weather stayed perfect throughout the event; pleasantly cool due to the monsoon season. Moreover, the sights and sounds surrounding the grassy field created a chill and pleasant atmosphere to sit back and relax, or yap. Seniors and juniors had a great time chatting and getting to know one another.

Of course, what’s a potluck without food? During GBTB, participants brought delicious treats like cheesecake and doritos. To top it off, the house committee even ordered pizza for everyone so that everyone could go home with satisfied bellies

An impromptu frisbee game during the event was also a big hit. Galenites, regardless of their age and gender, took the opportunity to stretch their legs and temporarily forget their frustrations and worries.

In all, the event was a timely reminder for everyone to rest and recharge during the busy seasons of life. Whether it's by enjoying nature, eating good food or getting active, the house committee hopes that every participant could relax in their own way before jumping back into the exam grind.
