CNY Spring Cleaning x Donation Drive
As Chinese New Year comes around every year, a recurring phrase that probably many of us hear would be “GO DO SOME SPRING CLEANING NOW!!!!”. Most of us are probably forced to throw out many items that we no longer need or use regularly in light of the new year approaching.
The Youth Expedition Project (YEP) team tapped on this tradition, and held a donation drive as part of their efforts to raise funds for their project! The donation drive was held at LT27, from 22 January to 24 January. What better way to do spring cleaning than to donate it for charity purposes? It’s like killing two birds with one stone! The YEP team managed to gather donations from many, and the donated items spread across a wide array of items – ranging from English storybooks that we used to read when we were younger, to more educational healthcare-related informational books, encyclopaedias, and even to toys like stuffed animals and soccer balls. All these items were generously given up to the healthcare professionals and children from Siem Reap, Kampong Chhnang and Phnom Penh regions of Cambodia.
Additionally, some people also came by with monetary donations, if they could not find anything suitable to donate from their spring cleaning. A little help goes a long way, and all these donations, be it monetary or pre-loved items, will find new homes and hopefully help in providing our less fortunate peers with newfound happiness.
