Xinyan

Major in Pharmacy and Minor in Health and Social Sciences

Why did you take your minor/2nd major?

“I wanted to learn something outside of pharmacy to expand my knowledge. When I came across the HSS minor, I realised the courses they offered were exactly what I was interested in.”

What's the workload like?

“As some of the courses could be double counted, I didn’t really have to overload and hence the workload was manageable. The essential courses were quite simple and I had fun learning them. The level 3 courses were of course more complex but I was lucky to have met good profs who made the learning process very enjoyable.”

What's the most interesting thing you've done so far?

“When I was taking PL1101E, they taught us the basics of psychology and it felt more like learning about psychological hacks. Surprisingly, these hacks helped me cope better in life. For example, The Spotlight Effect; it made me realise that I don't have to dwell over my embarrassing moments because others probably won’t even remember them. Learning stuff like these is pretty cool.”

Major in Pharmacy and Minor in Public Health

Why did you take your minor/2nd major?

“I wanted to use Public Health as an opportunity to broaden my perspectives on patient care and potentially use these skills set to build on health using a macro lens.”

What's the workload like?

“The workload dependent on the module is decent. It mostly revolves around some presentation/project as well as some assignments either through CAs or essays.”

What's the most interesting thing you've done so far?

“I took two 3k modules, one about mental health and the other on One Health. Both are interesting perspectives on the landscape of neuropsychology and infectious disease, especially viewing it in a framework and biopsychosocial aspects.”

En Qi

Major in Pharmacy and Second major in Music, Collaboration and Production

Why did you take your minor/2nd major?

“I took my 2nd major for one very simple reason — that I love music. I can't imagine my life without it and I knew that I wanted to do music more seriously. A good friend of mine encouraged me to pursue my dreams, and the rest was history :))”

What's the workload like?

“I would be lying if I said that the workload was not high :). I had many sleepless nights trying to complete assignments from both majors, and there were many times where you would find me late for class because I had to rush from one faculty to another. But I consider myself lucky to have wonderful friends from both Pharmacy and Music; they were willing to take time to bring me through the things that I've missed and keep me updated on everything I needed to know. At the end of the day, I really learnt a lot and it was an extremely fulfilling experience!”

What's the most interesting thing you've done so far?

“One of the most interesting things I've been trying to do throughout the duration of my second major was to find an intersection between Pharmacy and Music! That led me to so many places; I've held music relaxation workshops for pharmacists, made pharmacy-related music videos, and explored so many other things. But the project that I hold closest to my heart was my Capstone project, where I curated a concert and invited pharmacists and pharmacy students to perform and share their stories. I was extremely inspired by all of their stories and journeys in the profession, and I'm very thankful to have their support throughout the whole process :)) Of course, I have a lot of people to be thankful to, so thank you to everyone who was part of the process, in one way or another!”

Major in Pharmacy and Minor in Japanese Language

Why did you take your minor/2nd major?

“I have fun learning languages so I decided to take Japanese as I enjoy visiting Japan and eating Japanese food. I decided to continue learning Japanese because of the various interesting sentence structures/forms and how they differ from English, as well as the nuances that are difficult to capture when translated.”

What's the workload like?

“I think it is on the heavier side but still manageable. It involves weekly vocabulary/grammar/listening quizzes, group projects, and 2 term tests.”

What's the most interesting thing you've done so far?

“Planning and then bringing Japanese high school students on a full day tour around Singapore!”

What's the most interesting thing you've done so far?
