Welfare Carnival

Welfare Committee

Three concurrent events (NUSPS Room Garage Sale, House Fundraising, and Welfare Bakery) will compose the Welfare Carnival - though this proposal pertains only to Welfare Fundraising (NUSPS Room Garage Sale + House Fundraising).

Encouragement Messages and Welfare Bakery are initiatives which serve to improve the welfare of the NUS Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science student body by providing a platform for students to raise awareness for mental wellbeing, bond and create a stronger support system through encouraging each other during tough times. Both of these initiatives will allow students to show appreciation to their friends and motivate students into studying for the curriculum. These initiatives will also improve students’ mental well-being as they can be further encouraged by sweet treats and words of care and concern from their peers. Also, students can snack on food that they enjoy, allowing them to take time off to care for their own mental health and practice self care.

Welfare Bakery will be conducted in week 6 of AY22/23 Semester 2 at the area outside of LT27 on the 14th and 15th February. Students can order food such as bubble tea or subway cookies for their friends or themselves while writing a nice and encouraging message to cheer one another up for the upcoming examinations and the remaining semesters. The board for encouragement messages will be available for students to write encouraging notes throughout the semester in PPS Hub after the Welfare Bakery.

Following the NUSPS room cleanup, we intend to have a NUSPS Garage Sale to sell off (and also give away) items like shirts, lanyards, tote bags, and others. Earnings generated can be used to support future Welfare and House events, while the physical sale of said items will serve to further declutter the room.

House Fundraising will involve the sale of House merchandise, which also plays a role in financially supporting future House events. Moreover, the sale of house merchandise can foster a stronger personal identity with and sense of belonging to the Houses as students may purchase House themed shirts, lanyards and other keepsakes - of which are items used frequently in university student life, and may further develop the House spirit.
